How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Invisalign straightens your teeth with a series of clear, custom-made aligners instead of metal brackets and wires. You wear each set for one to two weeks, gently guiding your teeth closer to their final position before moving to the next set. Is Invisalign as effective as braces?

For most common issues, including crowding, spacing, and many bite problems, clear aligners work beautifully. Some complex cases are still best treated with braces, and that's exactly what your consultation is for. Dr. Freeman will recommend the option that gives you the best result.

What are attachments and do I need them?

Attachments are tiny, tooth-colored bumps we may bond to a few teeth to help the aligners grip and make certain movements. They're barely noticeable, don't hurt, and are polished off at the end of treatment. Not everyone needs them, and Dr. Freeman will tell you if they'll help your plan.

Will I need a retainer after Invisalign?

Yes. Just like with braces, teeth can drift over time, so you'll wear a retainer after treatment to keep your new smile in place. We create a custom retainer and explain exactly how often to wear it so your results last for years.

How many hours a day do I need to wear my aligners?

For the best results, wear them 20 to 22 hours a day, essentially all the time except when eating, drinking anything but water, and brushing. The more consistently you wear them, the more predictable and on-time your results.

Can I eat and drink with Invisalign?

Yes, and that's one of the biggest perks. You take your aligners out to eat and drink, so there are no food restrictions. Just brush before putting them back in, and avoid drinking anything but water while wearing them so they don't stain or trap sugar.

Is Invisalign really invisible?

The aligners are clear, smooth plastic that fits snugly over your teeth, so most people won't notice you're wearing them. It's a popular choice for adults and teens who want to straighten discreetly at work, school, or in photos.

Does Invisalign hurt?

Invisalign is generally very comfortable. You may feel light pressure for a day or two each time you switch to a new set, which is a sign it's working. There are no wires or brackets to irritate your cheeks and lips, which many patients find more comfortable than braces.

How do I clean my aligners?

Rinse them every time you take them out and gently brush with a soft toothbrush and clear, unscented soap or an aligner-cleaning product. Avoid hot water, which can warp them, and colored or abrasive toothpaste, which can scratch and cloud the plastic.

What happens if I lose or break an aligner?

Call us right away and we'll advise whether to move to your next set or order a replacement. Wearing your previous aligner in the meantime helps hold your progress. With Invisalign Teen, a few replacement aligners are included.

Most cases run between $3,000 and $8,000, depending on how much correction is needed and how long treatment takes. Minor cases sit at the lower end, and full bite correction at the higher end. Many PPO dental plans include orthodontic benefits that apply to Invisalign, often between $1,000 and $3,000 in lifetime coverage. We verify your benefits for free before you start and file your claims for you, so you get the full value of your plan.

Yes. You can use pre-tax funds from a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account toward your Invisalign treatment, which effectively lowers your out-of-pocket cost.
