Braces for Kids in Fort Lauderdale
Dr. Chris Freeman guides young Fort Lauderdale smiles with gentle, well-timed care, and every first visit begins with a relaxed, no-pressure consultation.

Why a 7 to 10 Year Old Might Need Braces
Between roughly ages 7 and 10, a child still has a mix of baby and adult teeth and the jaw is actively growing. That makes it the ideal window for Dr. Freeman to guide crowded or crossed teeth, widen a narrow jaw, and create room, often making later treatment simpler or shorter.
Acting during these growing years can gently steer development in the right direction, something that is much harder once the jaw has finished growing. It is not about rushing into braces. It is about timing care for the best result which allows for the permanent teeth to erupt where they should to avoid much more complicated treatment later. If they don't need early intervention, Dr. Freeman will gladly let you know.

We Work Hand in Hand With Your Dentist
The best results for kids come from teamwork. During these growing years there is a lot happening at once, baby teeth loosening, adult teeth arriving, and regular checkups, cleanings, and sealants to stay on top of. Dr. Freeman works closely with your child's dentist or pediatric dentist, sharing scans and timing every step so early orthodontic care and routine dental care support each other instead of getting in the way.

Braces for Kids, Answered
What happens at my child's first visit?
It is a relaxed, complimentary consultation. Dr. Freeman examines your child's teeth, bite, and jaw growth, takes a quick digital scan, and explains whether your child needs anything and when. There is no pressure to start.
Why might a 7 to 10-year-old need braces?
The jaw is still growing during adolescence, which is a rare window to guide development, not just straighten teeth. Waiting until the teen years or adulthood makes some corrections harder or impossible. A bite that is off can cause asymetrical jaw growth. Sometimes, if the permanent teeth are too big in comparison to the size of the upper and lower jaw, this can lead to impacted teeth that would require the help from an oral surgeon but can be avoided with early orthodontic intervention called Phase 1.
How long will my child be in treatment?
When an expander or early treatment is part of the plan, it is typically about 12 to 14 months. Dr. Freeman gives you a clear timeline at your complimentary consultation.
Will my child lose baby teeth during treatment?
Often, yes. Phase 1 orthodontic treatment begins while some baby teeth are still in place, and Dr. Freeman times everything around your child's natural growth.
Does insurance cover braces for kids?
Many dental plans include orthodontic benefits for children. We check your coverage, file your claims, and offer flexible payment plans to keep it easy on the family.
